“As we put the finishing touches on a very successful building project, Judy and 1 want to express our appreciation to for your professionalism, hard work and diligence during the construction of our new home. We could not be more pleased with the finished product. There were many decisions to be made throughout the project, but the most important and the one we got absolutely correct, was selecting Gerald Ellison as our builder. As you may recall, we were a bit apprehensive in the beginning. We had not built a home in many years and were somewhat intimidated by the many issues and decisions to be addressed. Also, we only wanted to move once and were concerned that we could complete the building process while continuing to live in Oklahoma. You devoted the required time up front to thoroughly review our plans and work with us to explain how we could complete construction with us being present at selected checkpoints. Thanks to effective planning and organization by you, this approach worked very smoothly.

Our periodic visits, which typically lasted from a couple of days to a week, were always very informative and productive. The walk-through at the start of each visit helped us to get quickly up to speed on the status of construction and allowed us an opportunity to make comments and request adjustments. While there were alternative approaches discussed to making adjustments, we were never told something could not be done. Gerald Ellison epitomizes the term “Custom Builder”. Following the walk-through, you always had a full schedule of meetings and reviews with suppliers and vendors. As we drove back to Oklahoma following one of our working visits, we would often comment “we really got a lot done”.

We could go on at length about the quality sub-contractors involved in our project they seemed to have a strong allegiance to Gerald and were very friendly to us when we were at the work site. In particular, the painters and the trim person were true artists as well as being very skilled in their professions. Looking back on the project, it was just a very exciting and positive experience. We not only got a beautiful new home, we also made a Special new friends… Gerald Ellison.”

“When we started the process of building our house, we requested bids from four (4) builders. We, along with our architect, visited houses under construction by each of the builders to evaluate the quality of construction. Both we and our architect were very impressed with the quality of the basic framing and structural components of the houses built by Gerald Ellison.

“Having a retirement house built can be a daunting task. Having one built by ‘strangers’ even more so. Combine that with living 500 miles away from the construction site, and it’s safe to say one’s sanity may be questioned. We would like to thank you for making the process as stress free as possible. From our first meeting to discuss our plans, until the end of the project, it was evident that we put our trust in the right builder.

There were many, many decisions made during the construction process, and we appreciate the help we were given in making those decisions. Coming from Kansas, where there’s a straight road every mile, we really enjoyed being chauffeured through the hills and valleys and around the corner to meet with the building suppliers. Adding your expertise in making selections that met not only our desires, but our budget was an added plus. The ‘little things’ you suggested made a ‘big difference’.

Gerald, we appreciate the features you incorporated into the house that will make it more livable and affordable. For example, the energy trusses, the insulated vinyl siding, and the foil lined roof sheathing, while standard features on all Ellison homes, were all new ideas to us, and we will remember those features whenever the utility bills arrive. Also, the insulation you had installed in the bedrooms, bathrooms, utility room and media room walls help keep the house quiet and livable. .Another thing we liked about your method is when you believed changes were needed in our plans, you always provided solid reasons. And while we nearly always agreed with your recommendations, those few times when we wanted things done differently, you gladly complied with our wish. It made the process proceed so smoothly.

We enjoyed meeting with your subcontractor during our trips to the Village. All the subs were very skilled at their trades and easy to work with. It’s no wonder you’ve stayed with them for so long. While we don’t want to slight any of them, there are a few that demand special recognition.

First, the painting by Osmon really is exceptional. The difference in the paint job we received and a “normal’ job, was not just in applying the paint, but more importantly, in the huge amount of effort taken to prep are the surfaces. The crew did not take shortcuts, and it shows. It’s gorgeous.

Second, the cabinetry by McInroe is absolutely of the highest quality, The fireplace mantel is nothing less than a work of art that we will enjoy for years to come.

Next, your faux painter is really a wonderful artist. The work she did in the powder room is just another of those things that make this house special to us.

Finally, the tile work was excellent. While we avoided using expensive tile treatments, the tile work came out better than we could have imagined. We happened to visit the site when the stove back-splash was being constructed, and thankfully, the installer has a lot more patience than we have! We couldn’t be happier with the results.

A horror story that has beset some new homeowners is the discovery that the contractor failed to pay for materials and labor. It happens throughout the country, and has happened in the Village. So we were happy to see the monthly statements, including canceled checks, showing not only that invoices were paid, but paid promptly. We balanced the books every month, and the results always came out to the penny! Great job! During our visits with suppliers, more than one mentioned how they enjoyed working with Gerald Ellison, not only because of your professionalism and construction knowledge, but also because they knew that payment would be received in a timely manner.

It is often stated, the job’s not finished until the paperwork is done, and in this case, that paperwork consisted of lien waivers. We appreciate receiving waivers from every supplier, including Gerald Ellison, soon after their portion of the job was complete. It’s comforting to know we will buy our house only once!

One final item that must be mentioned is how you made the process fun! We truly enjoyed working with you, and while you may have been a stranger to us a year ago, we now consider a good friend.
